  11.        The Silicon Graphics ImageVision Library (IL)  Execution
  12.        environment is required on any system that runs IL programs.
  13.        Applications such as the IRIX Interactive Desktop
  14.        environment, Insight and the ImageVision tools all require
  15.        this subsystem. Since the necessary il_eoe subsystems are
  16.        installed as a default, most users should not have to
  17.        concern themselves with further details.  However, the
  18.        curious user may be interested in using IL derived tools or
  19.        programming directly with the IL.  You can refer to the
  20.        ImageVision Tools book or the IL man page for some example
  21.        applications derived from IL.

  24.        IL Execution environment software consists of a primary
  25.        library for C++ as well as supporting libraries for C and
  26.        Fortran based applications.  Additionally, a set of
  27.        libraries used for supporting several file formats are
  28.        included in the il_eoe subsystems.  The IL reference man
  29.        page contains more information about IL derived
  30.        applications.

  32.        Important note: for backwards compatibility, the IL 2.5.1
  33.               and IL 3.0 libraries are included in the ImageVision
  34.               Library  release. This allows applications linked
  35.               with IL release 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.5.1 or 3.0 to
  36.               continue to run. However, to take advantage of
  37.               performance tunes and bugs fixed since the IL 2.5.1
  38.               or IL 3.0 release, or to work with OpenGL you must
  39.               recompile and relink against the IL  libraries.  IL
  40.               is binary compatible with IL release 3.1, 3.1.1 and
  41.               3.1.2.

  91.        (the _r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s subsystem), you can view the release notes on
  92.        your screen.

  94.        If you have a graphics system, select ``Release Notes'' from
  95.        the Tools submenu of the Toolchest. This displays the
  96.        _g_r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s(1) graphical browser for the online release notes.
